Arunachal Pradesh has been allocated Rs 4,900 crore under the ‘pride of hills’ scheme, a component of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI).

The scheme, with an outlay of Rs 25,000 crore for the financial year 2026-27, has been launched to accelerate development in the hill states of the country.

“The allocation of Rs 4,900 crore for Arunachal will help us improve fiscal stability and further invest in creating revenue-generating assets,” Chief Minister Pema Khandu said.

While there has been a steady flow of funds, if implemented efficiently, this Rs 4,900 crore allocation could bring significant changes in key sectors such as infrastructure development, job generating projects, and other core areas like education and health. Priority should be given to sectors like education and health, as these remain neglected.

Execution, proper selection of viable projects, and accountability have remained poor in the state. Health and education have continued to be problem areas, yet little intervention has been made to improve the situation. Closing educational institutions is not an appropriate response.

Therefore, the selection of projects, transparency, and timely completion will determine whether the funds create lasting and meaningful infrastructure.
