ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Gora Makik Sporting Club (GMSC) clinched the maiden T K Arunachal Super League title beating Todo United with two second half goals in the final.
The match started on an attacking note with players of both the teams making attack and counter attacks right from the blast of the whistle at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun.
The evenly played first half ended tied 0-0.
After a barren first half, it was Kaki Modi, who broke the deadlock scoring in 55th minute. GMSC managed to double their lead 13 minutes later. The goal scored by Kakang Beyong in 68th minute literally demoralized Todo United.
Todo United made some last ditch effort in the dying minutes but all their attempts proved futile.
The winning team walked away with US $ 3,500 (Rs 2 lakh approx) sponsored by Belgium-based MNC BPS Liquor and Pvt Ltd, along with the winner’s trophy.
The runners-up team was awarded Rs 1 lakh.
R D Karma of Todo United won the ‘Golden Boot’ for being the top scorer. Karma, who scored nine goals in the tournament, was also adjudged the ‘Best Player.’
Other individual prize winners were T T Sonikjee (Best Goalkeeper), Pura Dukhung (Best Defender), Byabang Doley (Best Midfield) all from GMSC, and Sonam Lepcha (Best Forward) of Todo United.
Cash prize of Rs 5000 each was awarded to the individual prize winners, sponsored by Senses Spa.
Arunachal Pradesh Football Association President Takam Sanjay, Vice President Kipa Takum, along with Sports Authority of Arunachal Vice Chairman Geshi Doke gave away the trophies and prizes.
