NIRJULI, Sep 18: The authority of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) will close the institute from 21 to 25 September, after three Covid-19 positive cases were detected within the institute’s campus recently.
However, online academic activities as per the new academic calendar will continue, the director of the institute said in a notification.
“Essential services, such as NERIST health unit, mess and sanitation workers, maalis and security personnel, etc, will attend their duties by maintaining social distancing and by following the standard operating procedures as prescribed by the health ministry,” the notification said.
Further, the ongoing construction- and infrastructure-related works – where workers are already available – will be allowed to continue, but no new workers will be allowed, it said.
While the entry of people from outside into the institute’s campus has been restricted, the campus residents will be allowed to move out only from 10 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm for procuring essential items.
The director advised the campus residents to strictly observe the SOPs. Students and parents have also been advised not to visit the institute during this period.
