In a landmark announcement, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday informed that an “alarm system” will be evolved by the finance department to remind the departments of the number of retiring employees in their respective departments. If implemented in the true spirit, this will massively benefit the government employees who retire after serving the state. The inordinate delay in the clearance of pensions for retiring government employees is a big concern. Often employees have to run from pillar to post to avail their pension benefits.
The retired employees often complain of corruption and delay in clearing the files for pension benefit. The employees from other states and from faraway districts suffer the most. The pension papers are cleared from the directorate of audit & pension based in Itanagar. It becomes difficult for people to come to Itanagar just to clear the pension-related works. If the announcement of the DCM is implemented in letter and spirit, it will help to clear all pension-related issues six months before the person retires. The government should make effort to implement an “alarm system” at the earliest for the benefit of the retired government employees of the state.
