ITANAGAR, 25 Feb: The capital police recently arrested four persons in connection with a series of theft cases, and seized many stolen items from their possession.
Earlier, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) SP Jimmy Chiram had constituted a special anti-theft team, led by Itanagar SDPO Kamdam Sikom, Inspector Simi, SIs Kenter Tacha and Sanjeet Jha, HC Kamgo and Constables Siplu, Ligu, Basar, Mili, Anil, Thomas, Geyum, Tago, Padu and T Wangsu.
On 16 February, the team apprehended one suspect, Tok Chahar (21). On interrogation, it was found that he was involved in a case (No 511/2021 u/s 379) registered at the Itanagar police station and had been arrested in that case.
Based on his revelation, the police recovered one stolen LPG cylinder and a mobile phone.
He further disclosed the names of Ropo Bagang (22) and Ato Changrang (18), who were also involved in crimes like stealing two-wheelers, LPG cylinders and car batteries and snatching mobile phones and cash within the ICR.
On 17 February, Chahar led a police team to a hideout where he, along with Bagang and Changrang used to hide after committing crimes. A police team comprising SDPO K Sikom, Inspector Simi and SI Kenter Tacha, raided an abandoned house located deep in the jungle near Senki View, where Bagang and Changrang were found sleeping.
The police detained the two accused and during search recovered two-wheeler lifting tools and a mobile handset.
Later, a suo moto case was registered, and the case was endorsed to SI Kenter Tacha for further investigation.
During investigation, the accused disclosed that they, along with their other friends jointly lifted 11 motorcycles, 16 scooters, 10 LPG cylinders, 10 batteries, seven mobile phones and cash from various sectors of Itanagar and Naharlagun, and sold the stolen items at Banderdewa (Assam), East Kameng HQ Seppa, and Itanagar.
Bagang and Changrang have also been found to have been involved in seven cases registered at the Itanagar police station.
Led by Bagang and Changrang, the police team recovered stolen properties including two motorcycles, two scooters, 16 LPG cylinders, three mobile handsets, 334.5 kgs of copper wire and 32 batteries from the ICR and Banderdewa (Assam).
The SP also dispatched a special team, comprising SI K Tacha and Constables Padu, Ligu and Basar, to Seppa, along with Bagang to recover the stolen two-wheelers which had been sold in Seppa.
After rigorous efforts, the team recovered four motorcycles and two scooters from Seppa with the help of Inspector Sochi Don and Constable H Simai of the Seppa police station.
In another case, a police team led by SI Sanjeet Jha arrested a habitual thief, identified as Sunil Gumja (20), from IG Park in connection with Itanagar PS Case No 55/22 u/s 380, and recovered one mobile phone, one knife and one laptop from his possession.
The SP informed that all the receivers of the stolen properties will be booked under Section 411 IPC and punished as per the law.
