NAMPONG, 13 Mar: Panchayat leaders, students, members of women SHGs, and youths who have undergone de-addiction treatment under the Changlang district administration’s initiative took part in a de-addiction programme conducted here under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan on 12 March.
Organised by the 19 Assam Rifles and the ‘Fit @50+ Women’s Trans-Himalayan Expedition’ team led by legendary mountaineer Bachendri Pal, in association with the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, the programme was aimed at promoting fitness as a de-addiction treatment.
Stating that an empty mind is the devil’s workshop, Pal (68) said, “We should keep ourselves indulged in activities with good purposes and simultaneously keep ourselves fit.”
Team members Gangotri Indumati and Shushma Bissan encouraged the participants, stating that one can dream at any age and it is never too late to make a positive change.
Jairmpur CO Atu Yekar stressed on “the role of mother and the active women groups in society to combat social evils.”
“Since the issue of drug addiction is not just a disease for the individual but for the whole society, to combat this disease, there has be to a team effort by everyone, starting from the very basic unit, the family,” she said.
Rima Putok ZPM Khimsong Mossang and Changlang district BJP president KN Tikhak also appealed to the youths to refrain from consuming drugs or any kind of narcotics.
