Chief Minister Pema Khandu while inaugurating the new office building of the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) on Wednesday suggested that the APSSB prepare a fixed yearly schedule of examinations. Khandu has been instrumental in starting the APSSB in the state. The APSSB definitely needs to come out with a fixed yearly examination calendar. This will help the aspirants to prepare properly in advance. Also, it will help the board plan for the examinations. The creation of the APSSB is one of the best reforms initiated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. It has single-handedly changed the recruitment process for Groups C and D posts in the state.
Earlier, allegations of nepotism and corruption constantly used to come out whenever these recruitments were done through the respective departments. Even though for a brief period the job-for-cash scam had rocked the APSSB too, the board, under the leadership of its Secretary Santosh Kumar Rai, has managed to win back the trust of the aspirants by conducting controversy-free examinations. Another area that needs serious reformation is corrupt practices in transfer and posting, especially in the works departments. Many officials are holding charges on an officiating and functional basis, using political and financial clout, thereby depriving genuine officers. This practice needs to end and postings should be made purely on seniority basis. Also, the practice of paying bribes for getting plum postings is another big concern.
