DIRANG, 27 Sep: The Greater Kameng Badminton Championship, being organ-ised by the Greater Kameng Badminton Association (GKBA), began here in West Kameng district on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakke-Kessang MLA Biyuram Waghe lauded the association “for promoting the spirit of sports and bringing unity to the people of the greater Kameng belt.”
“Although we have our own separate Kameng districts like East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang, we should work together and take everybody on board. We need to maintain peace and unity at all costs,” he said.
GKBA president Aju Khonjuju informed that the association was formed in 2011, “wherein only three areas of the Kameng belt were represented, ie, Seppa, Bhalukpong, and Bomdila. After 2011, the association has widened its coverage with the inclusion of Tawang and Pakke-Kessang.”
“Our aim is to bring unity among the people, particularly in the greater Kameng belt. Through sports, we want to bring unity, communal harmony, cultural exchange and brotherhood,” he said.
Khonjuju informed that nine clubs – Tawang Club, Dirang Club, Bomdila Club, Nafra Club, Kalaktang Club, Rupa Club, Bhalukpong Club, two clubs from Seppa, and Pakke-Kesang Club – are participating in the championship.
