ITANAGAR, 10 Feb: IGP Chukhu Apa on Friday said that the state police have been waging a war against the drug menace and in the process have made several arrests, including men in uniform, with drugs.
Addressing a group of motorcycle riders during the flagging-off ceremony of an ‘awareness ride’ to Kurung Kumey district with the theme ‘Say no to drugs’, organised by the Kurung Kumey police led by SP Bomken Basar, from the PHQ here on Friday morning, Apa said that “drug abuse is ruining the lives of many youths and their families and is equally affecting the economy.”
Stating that the arrests and seizures made so far are not enough, the IG said that “a joint effort by the government and the society is needed to end the menace.”
Lauding the efforts of the Kurung Kumey police, the IGP expressed hope that the police in other districts would also follow suit.
Twenty-five riders will ride up to Ngobia, Sangram, Koloriang, Damin, Parsi Parlo and various other areas during the three-day programme. The team will interact with the locals and apprise them of the harmful effects of drug abuse and its impact on the society.
Koloriang Employees’ Forum secretary Nangram Pingkap, Kurung Kumey SP Bomken Bassar, other senior police officers of the PHQ and the capital police were present during the flagging-off ceremony.
