ROING, 22 Dec: Two awareness programmes on ‘Child rights and safe and unsafe touch’ were conducted at the Govt Residential School in Jamupani and the Govt Secondary School in Hunli by the Lower Dibang Valley district child protection unit, under the women & child development department.
Altogether 67 children and nine teachers participated in the programmes.
The DCPU protection officer highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the DCPU and emphasised the importance of legal adoption, while CHL project coordinator Embi Mega shared information about Child Helpline No 1098 and its services.
The children were also advised to report in case they know of any child in need of care and protection.
The DCPU counsellor spoke on child marriage, the impact of child marriage on health, and “education and experiencing gender-based violence.” The official team also highlighted the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, 1986. (DIPRO)
