APWWS alleges violation of APSCW rules, seeks govt’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Alleging ‘gross violation’ of the rules of the APSCW Act, 2002, in the recent formation of the 5th Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has sought immediate intervention of the state government in the matter.
In a release on Saturday, the APWWS stated, ‘As per information, the government has appointed non-APST persons who are outside the panel list prepared by the preceding Commission, which is complete violation of Section 5(1) and Section 5(5) of the APSCW Act 2002.’
Citing the provisions of the Act, the APWWS said all the members of the APSCW are to be APST women, and that ‘for the purpose of constitution of subsequent Commission in the state, the panel of candidates shall be prepared by the precedingCommission.’
Expressing grave concern over the issue, the APWWS stated that it is not against any individual and does not question the credentials and capabilities of the appointed members, but that it is concerned over the gross violation of the laid down rules for appointment under the APSCW Act, 2002.
‘No agency should undermine the very purpose of establishment of the APSCW and its motto to achieve the desired goal,’ the APWWS release added.
