ITANAGAR, 27 Aug: The Itanagar police on Monday apprehended four alleged accused involved in a cow theft case.

In a press statement, the police informed that the police station received an FIR from one Tarh Kama on 23 August, reporting theft of three cows that had been loaded onto a pickup truck (AR01-R-4990) in Jollang near here.

“Swiftly acting on the case, a police team apprehended two suspects, identified as Jaidul Islam and Asadul Alam, on the same day,” while two more suspects – Mojahidul and Asadul Islam – were later arrested from Assam and brought to Itanagar, where they admitted to their crimes, the police informed.

Investigating Officer SI Randhir Kumar Jha led the team under the supervision of Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi and Itanagar PS OC Inspector K Yangfo.

“During interrogation it was revealed that there have been multiple cattle thefts in the recent months. The stolen cattle were seized and handed over to the owners,” the police said.

The pickup truck has also been seized.

“Further investigation exposed a cow meat shop in Chimpu, Itanagar, operated by suspects Asadul and Mujahidul, who regularly steal cows from Jullang and nearby areas,” the police informed.

“Efforts continue to apprehend additional suspects and recover further stolen cattle. This case highlights the prevalence of cattle theft in the area, emphasising the need for community vigilance and cooperation,” the police said.
