Editor,
I would like to express our anguish and disappointment regarding the events that occurred at the APPSC Itanagar office on Monday.
As per the admit card issued by APPSC Itanagar, the viva voce for the post of Lecturer DIET (Social Science category) was scheduled for 25th November 2024 (Monday). However, shockingly, it was postponed at the eleventh hour after all the document verification formalities had been completed.
According to the admit cards, 25th November 2024 was the scheduled day for the viva voce for the Social Science category, and 26th November was designated for the Science, Mathematics, Hindi, and English categories. But the commission had a different schedule: the 25th was allocated for the Science, Mathematics, Hindi, and English categories, while the 26th was for the Social Science category. This discrepancy caused chaos among all the aspirants.
As per the instructions on the admit card, aspirants were directed to report to the APPSC office at 8:30 AM. Accordingly, aspirants arrived on time and completed all required formalities.
After waiting for three hours in the hall, the APPSC Secretary came and expressed her regrets, apologizing for the confusion. She informed the aspirants that they should return the following day, as the subject experts for Social Science were unavailable. The Secretary also assured us that further notifications would be posted on the APPSC website by 12:30 PM. However, there was no clarity from the commission until 5 PM. Many aspirants were informed only through phone calls. This is a clear violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and a first-time occurrence in the history of APPSC Arunachal. The Commission called it a “technical error,” which was both shocking and disappointing.
How can we now trust the efficiency of the commission? It seems the commission is experimenting with the lives of the Lecturer DIET aspirants.
The document verification process also appears to be casual. For example, there is no column for B.Ed or M.Ed certificates, although an M.Ed or M.A. in Education is a compulsory qualification for the Lecturer DIET post. Meanwhile, the column for Ph.D. is irrelevant for this post and should be removed.
Earlier, there was considerable confusion regarding the subjects for the recruitment test. The commission’s notifications and the syllabus provided to aspirants contained numerous contradictions. After many queries, the commission eventually rectified the errors.
Additionally, the date of the recruitment test was initially notified as 29th September 2024. Despite assurances from the Secretary during a press briefing that the date would not change, it was later postponed just days before the exam to 25th October 2024.
It is now clear that the new commission is handling the Lecturer DIET recruitment through a trial-and-error approach. Such gross errors from the state’s highest authority are unacceptable. We have lost our trust in the commission and hope that such mistakes will not be repeated.
