Unfair exam centre allocation

Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to bring to light an issue that has affected many genuine aspirants of the APSSB examinations such as CGL, CHSL, and CSL.

As an applicant myself, I have experienced that, despite applying well in advance and selecting nearby examination centres from the options provided, I was allotted a centre located far away from my current location. On the other hand, it has been observed that candidates who applied during the last few days of the application period were allotted centres much closer to their preferred locations, especially around the capital region, where a large number of aspirants are presently residing.

This situation raises a very basic but important question – what is the use of applying early if it offers no practical benefit? The APSSB always sets a proper timeframe for application submission, usually spanning two to three weeks. When applicants apply early within this official window, it is only natural for them to expect some advantage or priority, especially when it comes to centre allocation based on preference.

However, when early applicants are sent to distant centres while late applicants are placed comfortably, it not only discourages people from applying early but also undermines the purpose of giving centre preferences in the form itself. It sends out a message that applying early or planning ahead holds no real value.

I believe that a first come, first served approach in centre allocation would be a fair and logical system, especially when preferences are already being taken during application. Such a system would respect the promptness and seriousness of early applicants and bring more order and trust into the recruitment process.

I humbly request the authorities concerned to reflect on this issue and ensure that future examinations are conducted in a manner that is fair, motivating, and considerate of all aspirants.
