PASIGHAT, 1 Aug: Twenty-one trainees from various departments participated in a five-day training programme on ‘Water management techniques for the cultivation of vegetable crops in sandy soil of Arunachal Pradesh’, which concluded at the College of Agriculture (CoA) here in East Siang district on Friday.
The programme, funded by the Central Agricultural University, Imphal, saw the participation of trainees from the Agriculture Department, HorticultureDepartment, ATMA district training office, Soil Conservation Department, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
The training course was directed by Prof Saroj Kumar Pattanaaik of the agriculture engineering department of the CoA. Twenty lectures were delivered, and hands-on practical sessions were also conducted during the course of the programme.
Topics covered included the latest technologies of water management in Northeastern conditions,including smart irrigation scopes for commercial vegetable cultivation; soil management in organic cultivation; managing existing water stress in climate resilient agriculture; protected cultivation; package of practices of selected exotic vegetable crops; and project formulation and cost-economics in preparation of project proposals.
