Arunachal karatekas shine at 9th International Karate C’ships

ITANAGAR, 31 Jul: The karatekas from Arunachal Pradesh Seishinkai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Association bagged 7 gold, 2 silver and 10 bronze medals at the 9th International Karate Championships for Challengers Cup, which ended at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, West Bengal on 27 July.

Kimi Kamblai, Bahadur Ekke, Omso Kri, Yali Mimi, Nido Jirnia, Tapi Ngoju and Trisha Barman won the gold medals.

While Kamblai and Ekke won in the senior women’s and men’s category, respectively, Mimi and Jirnia won in the junior girls’ category.

Kri and Ngoju won in the junior and sub-junior boys’ category, respectively, while Barman won in the sub-junior girls’ section.

Lucky Pordung and Ritila Towang won the silver medals in the boys’ cadet below 45 kg and the girls’ cadet below 42 kg category, respectively.

The bronze medal winners were Ritu Tawsi (Sr -61kg), Tafang Tana (Jr +63kg), Lucky Pordung (Cadet -45kg), Ritila Towang (Cadet -42kg), Misha Pul (Cadet -55kg), Yuki Yun (Jr -48kg), Beti Beyong (Sub Jr -42kg), Charu AjumĀ  (Jr -50kg), Taba Baate (Cadet -45kg), Damrik Ete (Cadet -61kg), Kayu Kanu BagangĀ  (Cadet -52kg) and John Siyum (Sub-Jr +50kg).

Twenty-two karatekas – 11 males and 11 females -participated in the event. Rakom Dugi led the team,while Dakpe Sikom and Boken Tatu were the coach and the manager, respectively.

The association felicitated all the medal winners at a function held here on Wednesday.

Arunachal Pradesh Amateur Karate Do-Association president Yarda Niki and its general secretary John Bagang congratulated all the medal winners.
