Repair Nirjuli-Nlg road

Editor,

I wish to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the awful condition of NH 415, particularly the stretch between Nirjuli and Naharlagun.

Despite being a part of the state’s capital area, this crucial stretch of road is in a pitiful state, riddled with deep potholes, slushy mud patches, and unlevelled surfaces. What was envisioned as a smooth, four-lane highway has now become a nightmare for daily travellers – students, office workers, patients, etc. With the onset of the monsoon, the situation has only worsened.

Adding to the misery is the unchecked earth-cutting activity being carried out near this route. These activities, often done without proper drainage or retaining structures, are causing landslides and blockages. Several such incidents have led to traffic snarls and complete road shutdowns.

It is extremely disheartening that despite repeated appeals by the public, these acts continue unabated. The absence of monitoring and enforcement by the departments concerned raises serious questions about administrative responsibility.

I earnestly urge the PWD, the highway authorities, the ICR administration, and other relevant departments to take immediate and concrete action to:

  • Repair and maintain the damaged road stretches
  • Fill potholes and improve drainage to prevent waterlogging
  • Take action against illegal earth-cutting and land encroachment activities, and
  • Ensure routine monitoring of the condition of the national highway in the capital region.

It is time we start prioritising citizen safety and urban infrastructure in line with the vision of a developed Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, the residents of Nirjuli-Naharlagun deserve safe, reliable, and well-maintained roads.
