ITANAGAR, Sep 5: The State Level Football Tournament for Teachers Trophy was lifted by GHSS, Chayanag Tajo defeating Govt. College, Seppa 6-5 via penalty shootout at DNGC playground here on Tuesday.
The match went to penalty shootout after both the teams tied 1-1 in regulation time.
After a barren first half, Chayang Tajo took the lead in 69th minute through goal from Lukmin Yongam. Atung Gyadi of Govt. College, Seppa restored the parity in 92nd minute, which led to a penalty shootout.
The winner walked away with cash prize of Rs 30,000 while the runners’ up was awarded Rs 20,000. Discipline team award winner Gyan Ganga Vidyapeeth received Rs10,000.
AAPSU Vice President (Admin) Meje Taku gave away prizes to the winner, the best player, highest scorer and best goalkeeper.
Former MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Lokam Tassar, who attended the closing ceremony, emphasized the need of playing sport to stay physically fit and healthy.
Speaking about the state government’s player-friendly programmes and policies, like job reservation for meritorious sportspersons, he urged the players to take up sports professionally. He also spoke about Shawchh Bharat Abhiyan and urged the players and spectators to maintain cleanliness.
Earlier, the organizers, spectators and all other present on the occasion observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to late Jomde Kena.
Kurung Kumey DSO Gyamar Jil, DNGC Principal in-charge Kumar Tok, OSD to Minister PHED & WS Bamang Taniang, present and former AAPSU leaders and IMWA office bearers attended the closing final day of the tournament.
The tournament was conducted by Ajing United Club.
