ITANAGAR, 18 Sep: The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-25 campaign was launched across the state on Wednesday.

In Lower Siang district SHS 2025 was launched by Assistant Commissioner Tajum Ronya, in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Department, the Urban Development & Housing Department, and the district administration.

The programme began with a cleanliness drive, followed by administering of the swachhata pledge, wherein officials, staff, and participants reaffirmed their commitment towards building a clean and healthy environment.

The SHS campaign is a fortnight-long nationwide initiative, held every year from 17 September to 2 October since its inception in 2017. The campaign seeks to strengthen the spirit of cleanliness and sanitation, and people’s participation in achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

During this fortnight, several activities will be conducted across Lower Siang district, including shramdaan at religious institutions, schools, tourist sites, and public spaces, gram sabhas to promote ODF plus model villages, river-cleaning activities, and awareness programmes through literary and creative competitions such as essay writing, painting, and quiz contests.

The district administration urged all citizens, community-based organizations, educational institutions, and local bodies to actively participation in the campaign to make it a collective success.

The Dibang Valley district administration, in partnership with the Urban Development & Housing Department and the PHED launched the SHS 2025 campaign in the district on Wednesday.

The event was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Lijum Ete from the DC office in Anini with the administering of the swachhta pledge. Following the pledge, the participants participated in a walkathon to the district hospital here. Around 150 participants, including students, community members, and officials from various departments participated in the walk, themed ‘Walk for cleanliness, walk for swachh Anini’.

UD & Housing Executive Engineer Olom Apang reflected on the decade-long journey of the Swachh Bharat Mission, and encouraged all to participate in the campaign.

In Lower Subansiri, the district administration, in collaboration with the Urban Development & Housing Department’s Ziro Division launched the SHS 2025 campaign under the theme ‘Swachhotsav’ at the mini-secretariat in Ziro on Wednesday.

The programme was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, in the presence of UD & Housing EE Tai Sangkio, administrative officers, HoDs, government officials, and members of the public.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in keeping the surroundings clean and sustainable, urging all citizens to contribute towards making Ziro a model of cleanliness and hygiene. She also administered the swachhata pledge.

The SHS 2025 campaign was flagged off in Keyi Panyor district by Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta in Yachuli, in the presence of DUDA EE Tai Kalley, and officers and officials of the district administration and the UD Department’s Yachuli Division.

As part of the programme, officials and community members participated in a cleanliness drive. They also took the swachhta pledge.

In Tirap district, Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran launched the SHS campaign, themed ‘Swachhotsav’, with a social service programme in Khonsa on Wednesday.

The initiative was organized by the Urban Development (UD) Department.

UD Executive Engineer Lienwang Hosai briefed the gathering on the objectives of the SHS campaign, which will run from 17 September to 2 October with a series of activities scheduled during the fortnight-long drive.

The DC administered the swachhata pledge and distributed safety gear to sanitation workers. In his address, the DC appealed to every individual and household to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent waterborne diseases caused by unhygienic lifestyles. He emphasized that cleanliness should begin at home – starting with kitchens, toilets, drains and living spaces – for a healthier lifestyle. He further urged the public to make Tirap a green and clean district while contributing to the vision of Swachh Bharat by also educating neighbours about hygienic living practices.

A mass social service was conducted at the old petrol pump trijunction on the day.

In Lower Siang district, the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was launched on Wednesday by Assistant Commissioner Tajum Ronya in Likabali, in collaboration with the PHED, the Urban Development and Housing Department, and the district administration.

As part of the launch programme, a cleanliness drive was organized and a swachhata pledge was administered to all participants, reaffirming the collective commitment towards a cleaner and healthier society.

In East Siang district, Pasighat MLA Tapi Darang,along with DC Sonalika Jiwani & PMC Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang launched a cleanliness campaign themed ‘Denam A:nam Pasighat Abhiyan’ (Swachh Pasighat Abhiyan) on Thursday to mark the Swachhata Hi Seva Diwas.

YouTuber, actor and social media influencer James Libang, the Dena A:nam Pasighat swachhta ambassador for East Siang, also joined the occasion.

The Denam A:nam Pasighat campaign, taken up by Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) in collaboration with the district administration under the DC’s initiative, aims to achieve zero-waste Pasighat under the SBM urban mission by fostering community participation and sustained awareness campaigns.

PMC MEO Jayanti Pertin highlighted the salient aspects of the campaign, which was jointly organised by the PMC (Urban) along with the PHE Department (Rural).

The occasion also featured flagging off of a swachhata vahan, a smart waste challenge for recycling wastes by NGO Green Squad, administering of swachhta pledge, etc, amidst a large gathering of NGOs, SHGs, HoDs, and members of the public and the market community.

Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Rono Hills observed Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign on Thursday with great enthusiasm and dedication, as part of the month-long nationwide initiative of the Education Ministry.

The programme began with the administration of the swachhta pledge by all departments, institutes, cells, and branches of the university, where the RGU community reaffirmed their responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness on campus and beyond. A rally was also organized by students and faculty members of the university’s social work department, spreading the message of cleanliness and responsible waste management across the campus.

A major highlight of the event was a swachhata nukkad natak (street play) performed by students of the psychology department near the department premises, the new central canteen, and the library. The performance, witnessed by more than 500 students, faculty members, and staff, conveyed messages on waste segregation, discouraging single-use plastics, and the collective duty of the citizens in building a clean and green India.

Speaking on the occasion, university authorities emphasized that the initiative truly reflectedMahatma Gandhi’s vision of a free, clean, and developed nation. They reiterated RGU’s commitment to organizing similar awareness programmes and action-oriented activities throughout the year to strengthen environmental responsibility both on campus and in the wider community.
