Editor,

As the Arunachal Pradesh Police embarks on recruiting new constables and firemen, a group of APST candidates is facing an uphill battle due to the stringent height requirement of 160 cm for male candidates and 152 cm for female candidates. Those who don’t fall under the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) category and have a height shorter than 160 cm are being excluded from the recruitment process.

According to the official notification, APST candidates belonging to the TCL category have a relaxed height requirement of 152 cm. However, APST candidates from other districts are expected to meet the standard height requirement of 160 cm. This has led to concerns about fairness and equal opportunities for all APST candidates.

We urge the authorities concerned to reconsider the height requirement for APST candidates who don’t fall under the TCL category. Relaxing the height standard would provide a fair chance for these candidates to join the police force and serve their community.

By relaxing the height requirement, the authorities can ensure that deserving APST candidates are not unfairly excluded from the recruitment process. We hope that the authorities will take into account the grievances of these candidates and take necessary steps to address this issue.
