Editor,
The recent notification issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) for the recruitment of assistant professors in various government colleges has drawn wide attention among aspirants and academic circles. While the notification is a welcome step to strengthen higher education, it also raises an important concern regarding the evaluation of teaching experience under the University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
As per the UGC Regulations, teaching experience is allotted 10 API points, calculated at two points for each completed year of teaching experience. This provision rightly acknowledges the value of classroom experience and academic contribution. However, the effective implementation of this guideline depends entirely on the authentic verification of experience certificates submitted by candidates.
There is a genuine concern that, in the absence of strict scrutiny, some candidates may attempt to submit fake or improperly obtained experience certificates to gain undue advantage in the selection process. Such practices not only undermine the principles of fairness and merit but also disadvantage genuinely experienced and deserving teachers.
Therefore, it is strongly suggested that the APPSC adopt a robust and transparent mechanism for evaluating teaching experience.
