YUPIA, Jun 28: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Dr Joram Beda on Thursday reviewed the disaster preparedness of the district.
The DC asked all the officers of the district to work in close coordination to tackle any disaster during the monsoon.
“We must be very serious about the disaster scenario of the district and, in the wake of last year’s incidents, we must remain active and alert during the monsoon as our district is also a disaster prone area,” Dr Beda.
He requested the NDRF to conduct mock drills in coordination with the DDMA to sensitize people on the importance of disaster preparedness.
The DC informed that the district emergency operating centre will be set up at the DDMO office here to monitor and supervise any emergency situation.
He also instructed the SDOs to issue orders to all administrative centres of the district to not grant leave to officers and staff during the monsoon period.
Papum Pare SP Tumme Amo made a presentation on the disaster response system of the police.
Speaking about last year’s incidents in Hostallam and Laptap, he said, “Local people remain very active and cooperative in search and rescue operations during any disaster. Hence, volunteers at village level must also be included in the district disaster management plan.”
12 Bn NDRF Deputy Commandant Ranjan Daimary said the NDRF is always ready to conduct mock drills or capacity-building programmes to generate mass awareness on disaster preparedness.
Highway Executive Engineer B Pelen apprised the DC of the problems faced by his department.
The SDRF team made a presentation on their activities, while DDMO Tsering Youngzom provided details on the district’s disaster management plan. (DIPRO)
