ITANAGAR, Jun 29: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) in a representation to the governor on Friday demanded immediate halt on the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) bombing drills at Dollungmukh in Kamle district, and shifting of the IAF’s drill site to a different location.
Alleging negligence on the part of the IAF and the state government for the 8 June bombing drill during which retired SSB jawan Bini Todum of Rigya village was seriously injured, the ANSU said the reason behind the incident was non-compliance of rules by the IAF authority which it said failed to communicate to the district authority regarding the proposed drill.
“There is presently no concrete security fencing/boundary wall around the designated bombing area, which is a serious concern for the security of locals, especially when it is known that such incidents have occurred in the past too,” the ANSU said.
Also saying that Dollungmukh, which is situated along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary, has been witnessing encroachment from the neighbouring state, the ANSU sought early posting of an administrative officer of the rank of EAC or SDO at Dollungmukh.
“Since Dollungmukh is situated at Assam Arunachal boundary and has no direct road connectivity to its district headquarters, it will be impossible for the deputy commissioner to monitor and execute functions to tackle such encroachment issues,” it said.
Meanwhile, the ANSU deeply mourned the demise of its former acting president (1986-1987) Tarh Yater Techi, and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
