LUBRANG, Jul 12: West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop announced to sanction furniture, blackboards, computers, toilet rooms and a playground for the government primary school here, under the CM’s Samast Shiksha Yojana (SSY).
Remote Lubrang village is home to the Brokpas, the yak herding community.
The DC urged the people not to migrate to towns and cities but instead strive to make the picturesque village a tourist destination.
Located at an elevation of 9000 ft, Lubrang is endowed with breathtaking natural beauty.
“It can be turned into a tourism hub if the necessary infrastructure is created,” the DC said.
In a bid to engage and empower the Brokpa womenfolk in income generation activities, Swaroop distributed free fly shuttle frame looms with accessories under the untied fund to 30 women beneficiaries. Others were given looms under the CM’s Indigenous Textile Promotion Scheme, facilitated by the textiles & handicrafts department.
Dirang ADC Dagbom Riba spoke on tourism promotion, and urged the state government to look into the tax being paid by the Brokpas to the landowners, which overburdens them financially.
DDTH D Phuntso advocated venturing into textile and handicraft business for sustainable development, as the village has little or no agricultural scope.
The DC also distributed prayer books and booklets containing the indigenous names of places in the district, published by the DoKAA. (DIPRO)
