YINGKIONG, Jul 30: The Swachh Survekshan, Grameen (SSG) has been launched in various districts of the state, in tandem with the rest of the country.
The SSG in Upper Siang District was launched here on Monday by Deputy Commissioner Duly Kamduk. The DC spelled out the importance and significance of the survey, and exhorted the stakeholders and the departments concerned to work make extra efforts to make Upper Siang one of the top-ranking districts, based on key quantities and qualitative parameters of the SBM (G).
PHED EE PD Chukla made a PowerPoint presentation on the objectives of the SSG – 2018, and explained about the objectives of the survey, which will start on 1 August and culminate on 30 August.
During the month-long survey by an independent agency deputed by the drinking water supply & sanitation ministry, the ranking of the districts and state will be prepared. An award will be given to the top-ranking district and state of the country on 2 October.

In Tawang, the SSG was launched in the presence of local MLA Tsering Tashi, ADC Lobsang Tsering, HoDs, GBs, NGOs and ex-PRI members at the DC’s Office.
The MLA informed that the first ever rural swachhta survey will have 6,980 villages of various districts across the country competing with each other and will be ranked as per their cleanliness and sanitation status.
He called for honest reporting of the cleanliness/sanitation status of the district to determine the actual progress and highlight the areas where the district needs to gear up.
ADC Lobsang Tsering threw light on the idea of ‘Clean India’ and said the activities undertaken under SBM have had great impact, “the results of which are crystal clear.”
In Anjaw, the SSG was launched by Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba, in the presence of the interim panchayat committee, HoDs, schoolchildren, DUDA officials, and other stakeholders.
PHED EE Dulom Tago highlighted the multipronged approach for “making the survey activities a stepping stone for ‘Clean and green Anjaw’.”
A memento of appreciation was presented to former zilla prerak Badapbiang Tariang Dkhar, who has endeared herself to the people of the district with her zeal for working towards ODF status and her additional contribution towards education through her single-minded commitment to the library movement in Anjaw.
The SSG was also launched at Pedung panchayat in West Kameng district by Deputy Commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop on Monday.
Swaroop appealed to the public to embrace sanitation and make the district disease-free. Stating that people’s health reflects the sanitation scenario, she urged the citizens to maintain good health and sanitation practices.
PHED EE Napung Konia informed that all the components of SBM (G), such as individual household latrines and community toilets in public places, have been implemented in Pedung panchayat.
The SSG was also launched in Dirang subdivision of West Kameng district by ADC Dagbom Riba.
He appealed to the residents to maintain cleanliness in their localities and use the IHHLs constructed under SBM.
He also urged the SSB and the ITBP to adopt some villages to improve their sanitation scenario.
