PARBUK, Sep 29: Thirty-four HGBs, GBs, village secretaries and assistant village secretaries of Meka, Bolung and Bukkong gram panchayats were felicitated in recognition of their service to the public by former ZPM Starson Saring at Parbuk village in Lower Dibang Valley district on Saturday.
He presented them with a radio set each during the programme.
Saring said the objective behind distributing the radio sets to the village heads was to keep them aware of the current affairs.
“This will help to keep them updated with what is going on in and around their area. The radio is most convenient as they can either charge it or use batteries even when there is electricity failure,” he said.
Saring said he would be donating 10,000 saplings for plantation along the left bank of the Dibang river, from Meka to Shantipur, as a precautionary measure against erosion.
“It is a matter of concern as soil erosion is occurring gradually. If not taken into consideration now, it might cause a very big problem in the future,” he said.
He also handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to the village secretaries as expense during the plantation programme which will be conducted in February next year.
Saring also informed that the district administration would be conducting a ‘Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ programme here in October.
