ROING, Nov 2: The women’s cell of Jomin Tayeng Government Model Degree College (JTGMDC) here on Friday organised a competition on laws related to women as part of the National Commission for Women’s nationwide competitions for college students on the same topic.
JTGMDC Principal Dr Monshi Tayeng urged the students to participate in the competition “in true spirit, bringing laurels to the institution.” Citing former president late APJ Abdul Kalam, he said, “When women are empowered, a society with stability is assured.”
Advocate Kangge Tayeng spoke on the different aspects of domestic violence, and focused on the legal provisions to curtail the social malaise. He also spoke about the criminal law amendment on rape, murder, sexual harassment, etc, to punish perpetrators of crimes against women.
Political Science Associate Professor Dr JK Pattnaik spoke on the “three Es: elimination of male-centric values, education, and economic empowerment for the amelioration of the conditions of the women.”
Economics Assistant Professor Apilang Apum was the coordinator of the programme.
A documentary on domestic violence was also screened on the occasion.
