Trg in scientific pig farming imparted

KARSINGSA, Nov 2: A two-day training programme on scientific pig farming, organized by the Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra, concluded here on Friday. Twenty-three participants were trained during the programme.
On the inaugural day, senior scientist Dr Bangkeng Perme advised the participants to venture into the pork industry and not depend only on traditional means of pig rearing.
Dr Perme also delivered lectures on nutrition of pigs and the use of locally available feed resources to minimize the cost of production. He also spoke on popularization of artificial insemination in the piggery sector for higher pork production in the state.
The trainees were taken to the animal husbandry, veterinary & dairy development department’s central pig breeding farm, where SVO Dr S Achariya imparted knowledge on care and management of breeding boars, pregnant sows and piglets.
Dr Nabam Gama delivered lectures on housing and diseases, and demonstrated the method of removing the milk teeth of newborn piglets.
