The whole country is mourning the death of 40 soldiers in a horrific terrorist attack at Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh have assured the nation that the perpetrators of the heinous act will be severely punished. In a rare of show solidarity, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has backed the government and said his party will stand together with the security forces and the government at this hour of grief. There is lot of anger among the people of India, and it is mostly directed at Pakistan. The Jaish-e-Mohammed, which claimed responsibility for the attack, is based out of Pakistan. There is no doubt that the Indian Army will punish those responsible for the attack at an appropriate time. However, television anchors and right wing activists are pushing for a war with Pakistan and are also spreading hatred against Kashmiris. Curfew was imposed in Jammu city on Friday as a protest against the Pulwama attack took on a communal colour.
These people are playing into the hands of the enemy who wants Indians to fight among themselves and self destruct. This is the time to sit down and calmly analyze the whole situation. Before pointing fingers at Pakistan, India has to first review its internal security. The attack in Pulwama was carried out by a local Kashmiri youth. In recent times, several youths from the valley have been joining terror groups. The government of India should first work out a long-term plan to de-radicalize these youths and take steps to win the hearts of the Kashmiris. Secondly, the route of funding for separatists and terror groups should be cut. Also, India needs to strongly take up the issue of designating Jaish chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist with China. Beijing cannot continue trade ties with India by supporting anti-India forces. The international communities have come out to show solidarity with India, and this is the right time to globally isolate Pakistan. The supreme sacrifice made by the CRPF jawans should not go in vain.
