UMIAM, Mar 26: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a special programme for school children, called the ‘Young Scientist Programme’.
The programme is aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications among the young, with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities.
It is proposed to select three students from each state and union territory to participate in the programme every year.
Those who have just finished the 9th standard (in the academic year 2018-19) and are waiting to join the 10th standard, or those who have started the 10th standard just now, will be eligible for the programme. The selection will be based on their 8th standard marks.
Interested students can register online from 25 March to 3 April. The selection will be based on academic performance and extracurricular activities. Students belonging to the rural areas have been given special weightage in the selection criteria. The list of the provisionally selected candidates from each state will be announced on 6 April.
Students can log on to www.isro.gov.in for more information.
