ITANAGAR, Sep 30: The All Kimin Students Union (AKSU) has written to secretary national commission for protection of child rights (NCPRC) seeking action against four persons namely Bamang Sonio, Bamang Jakop, Bamang Taja and Bamang Tare for their alleged involvement in brutality against three under aged children at Kimin under Papum Pare district.
The accused dragged out the students from their classroom, severely assaulted them and later paraded the students with their hands tied through the Kimin market.
The accused alleged that juveniles broke the window panes of Lovely Restaurant owned by Bamang Sonio.
The AKSU in their letter have sought justice for the victim. “After going through the facts of the case we came to know that there was prejudice against the three boys and the police have taken the matter so lightly without acknowledging the gravities of crime committed by Bamang Sonio and the accomplices. They have not just caused them serious injuries but they have ruined the life of the three innocents and also they have implanted traumas in their minds. If authorities fail to provide justice to these boys as early as possible, we might lose our hope on law,” the AKSU wrote in the letter.
While strongly condemning the inhuman act, the union has urged NCPRC to intervene and has sought fair investigation.
“Firstly, the restaurant does not have the permit to sell liquor and also it is an offence to sell liquor to the underage,” the AKSU writes. Further they questioned why school authorities did not report the matter to the police while juveniles were being dragged out from their class room and being thrashed in the school premises.
“As the boys are juvenile, the attackers should have first informed their respective parents and police instead of taking law into their own hand. After beating the boys mercilessly they even tied their hands in the back and paraded them through Kimin market in broad daylight upto the police station as if they were criminals,” the AKSU added. The union has also questioned the role of police in the whole episode.
“In presence of police personnel, the boys were forcefully made to hold cigarette and matchbox. The police could have acted promptly and fairly and even the charges imposed against the attackers under Indian Penal Code do not equalize the gravity of crime they have committed. More stringent charges could have been applied against them provided under Juvenile Justice Act and other specific law for protection of child right,” the union said.
“Fair investigation is required as to meet the end of justice. We appeal NCPRC to monitor this case. We cannot compensate the pain victim have gone through but we can ensure their safety and protect their rights by giving exemplary punishment to the culprit involved in this case. Hopefully it will serve a strong message to the society to refrain from indulging in such cruelty against any child in future,” the AKSU added.
