Silver jubilee celebration of APPDSU starts

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: The BJP Vice President Tadar Dominic on Friday while attending the silver jubilee celebration of All Papum Pare District Student Union (APPDSU) asked the students to follow the sole motto of union which is “learn to serve”.
The responsibility of any organization or union is to serve the society and state as a whole and APPDSU should not confine its role only in Papum Pare district, said Tadar Dominic.
Speaking on the land issue related to illegal encroachment and settlement of Chakma & Hajong, he said the granting of citizenship to them is not acceptable.
“The court may give citizenship to Chakma & Hajong but they can’t be permanently allowed to settle in Arunachal. We will never compromise regarding the granting of ST status to them”, said BJP Vice President.
“Itanagar being the capital city of state is like mini India. People from various tribe, state and culture stay here. We should respect every one of them and make them feel at home but should also protect the land,” said Tadar Dominic.
Founding president of APPDSU and lawyer Nabam Jollaw in his address asked the Union to play an important role to defend the rights of the indigenous students and to protect illegal encroachment of land along Assam-Arunachal boundary in Papum Pare district. However, he advised the students to fight for rights using legal means and avoid violence at any cost.
Jollaw asked student communities to play active role in the fight against illegal Chakma-Hajong settlers.
“With each year, the populations of these refugees are increasing which is great concern for the indigenous people. No doubt every student organization is supporting the rollback of the refugees but at the same time they should also know the history in detail to effectively counter the false propaganda unleashed against us by the Chakma-Hajong lobby group,” added Jollaw.
The APPDSU convenor Nabam Tarosh informed the gathering that sole motive of silver jubilee celebration is to motivate and inspire the students through sports, art and culture. APPDSU has been working on the eradication of social evils and futile taboos which affect individual and society. We have specially invited student’s leaders from Namsai, Tirap, Changlang and Longding to have pragmatic discussion on the Chakma & Hajong issue and how to overcome it, stated Nabam Tarosh.
APPDSU president Nabam Tado and General Secretary Gollo Lento also spoke on the occasion.
