CHANGLANG, Nov 6: With the Centre pushing for early settlement of the Naga pact, the Tirap Changlang and Longding People’s Forum (TCLPeF) recently convened a meeting involving people of the three districts to discuss the latest developments on the issue.
TCLPeF president N Changmi briefed on the latest position of the Indo- Naga peace talk between the Government of India and the NPGs and highlighted the activities worked out by the forum since its inception.
“After signing of the peace accord between the GoI and the NPGs (NSCM-IM and 7-NNPGs), there will be permanent peace in the TCL region,” Changmi said.
The TCLPEF while sharing some of the agreement points, appealed to the students and the general people to not spread “misguiding message regarding the said accord.”
“The GoI has already ruled out the territorial integration and any administration setup with Nagaland. If any autonomous body is given to TCL region for peace, prosperity and development then we must rather welcome and cherish the achievement,” the forum said in a press release.
During the meeting, a students’ federation, namely Tirap-Changlang & Longding Students’ Federation (TCLSF) was also formed for the welfare of the students’ community of the three districts.
The TCLSF has decided to visit all colleges in the three districts and constituencies to create awareness on the Indo-Naga Peace Accord.
The meeting was attended by Longding District Students’ Union, All Changlang District Students’ Union, Wancho Students’ Union, Ollo Youth Tirap District, All Tirap Students’ Union, former president and general secretary Arunachal Naga Student Federation, former ZPMs, chairman Laju Area VCC (Tirap), and advocate Nokchom Wangjen.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Naga Students Federation(ANSF) has hailed the peace process initiated by the Centre for bringing about a lasting solution to the decades- old Naga political issue.
The ANSF in a statement on Wednesday said that the federation honours the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Naga peace talks interlocutor R N Ravi for understanding that an enduring peaceful agreement can be arrived at through negotiation.
“We also appreciate the leaders of NSCN-IM for negotiating with the Centre for more than two decades on behalf of the Nagas to bring an undying solution for the Nagas,” it said.
The NSCN(IM) and the Centre had signed a ceasefire in 1997 and the negotiations between the two sides for a solution to the long-standing problem began in 2015 when a Framework Agreement was signed by them.
“Our people strive for lasting peace that will transform into smile, joy and heavenly environment for each and everyone through the peace accord between the Centre and NSCN-IM,” the ANSF said.
Stating that misgivings had arisen due to certain posts circulated in the social media, the ANSF said “We appeal to our people to be very vigilant about those who try to misinterpret and misinform about the Naga issue”.
It appealed to gaon burahs, student organisations, NGOs, legislators and political parties from the districts to raise their voice for a permanent and peaceful solution. (with PTI input)
