CHANGLANG, Nov 24: The Kharsang Football Club has lifted the third Wangnia Pongte Memorial Football Running Trophy for Men by defeating Khuchep Football Club in the final match played here at Changlang General Ground on Friday.
Limhong Taikam of Khuchep FC scored the first goal in 32nd minute giving a hope for his team to win the trophy. But the hope of the Khuchep FC was shattered when Kitson Kitnal and Repu Rekhungof Kharsang FC scored a goal each in 38th and 40th minute for their team. Finally a goal from Pongthing Rekhung of Kharsang FC sealed the fate of Khuchep FC.
The winner team was awarded with cash prize of Rs one lakh along with medal and certificates and the runner-up team was awarded with cash prize of Rs fifty thousand with medal and certificates.
The Government Hr Sec School team was adjudged most disciplined team and awarded with cash prize of Rs twenty thousand. Pongkhung Rekhung of Kharsang FC and Ranphang Taism of Khuchep FC were declared best goalkeeper and highest scorer and walked away with cash prize of Rs ten thousand each.
Addressing at the closing ceremony, Dumporijo MLA Paknga Bage appealed to the youth to refrain from health hazard and keep themselves engaged in games and sports activities during the leisure time.
Stating that sports has good scope and can be a good opportunity to start it as a career he appealed to the youth to focus on both studies and games and sports.
In his address, Sports Director, Tadar Appa informed about 5 % reservation in Govt job and 10 % in police department for distinct sports persons. He appealed to the youth to practice hard to compete at the national and international level.
Parliamentary Secretaries, Phosum Khimhun, Tesam Pongte and Ex-MLA, Kamthok Lowang also spoke on the occasion.
The tournament was organized by Zaaro Footbal Club, Changlang.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Wayong Khimhun, Govt officers, public leaders were present in the closing ceremony and witnessed the final match. DIPRO
