NAMSAI, Sep 13: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has called to maintain the age-old friendly relations between the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
He said this on Wednesday while attending the 40th All Assam Inter-District Sub-Junior Football Tournament at Vir Lachit Stadium, Chapakhowa under Sadiya Sub-Division in Assam.
Recalling his past days, Mein said that he has a long bonding and close association with the people of neighbouring Assam and has many close friends in various villages under Sadiya Sub-Division.
He further said that with the opening of Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu over Lohit River, connecting the Sadiya Sub-Division of Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, many avenues have come up. He called upon the people of the area to make best use of these opportunities to improve their economy.
Underscoring the importance of games and sports for over all personality development, Mein said that there is no dearth of sports talent in North East India and stressed on creating proper infrastructures, like stadium and training facilities in every North Eastern state and districts of the state to groom the sports talents of the region.
The tournament is organized by the Sadiya District Sports Association, Chapakhowa and 31 teams from all over Assam are participating in the tournament.
