Heritage walk

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: History Department of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar in collaboration with Sahapedia, New Delhi conducted a custom Heritage Walk for the students of the History Department of the college to Ita Fort and Thupten Gazelling Itanagar Gompa on October 18. The Walk to Ita Fort was led by Duli Ete, Assistant Professor, Department of History, DNGC, and explored the archaeological landscape of Ita Fort, its history, enigmatic ruins of Southern and Western gates, architecture and local folklores associated with in, and exposed the students to the controversy surrounding its date of construction and builder.
The walk also covered Mahayana Buddhist Gompa complex originally known as Thupten Gazelling Itanagar Gompa. Led by Tsering Yangjom, Head, Department of History, DNGC, this leg of Heritage walk created awareness about this sacred landscape and highlighted the Buddhist Culture as exemplified in the Gompa’s art, architecture and basic rituals.
About 80 History Major Students and 8 faculty members of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar participated in during the Heritage Walk.
