TELAM, Nov 14: The Tabiripo team from Koyu circle won the first Liri Kaye Memorial Cricket Tournament beating host team Telam David by 32 runs at Telam village playground this afternoon.
Tabiripo scored 100 runs losing their all wickets.
Chasing the target of 101 runs to win, Telam David were all out for 68 runs in the 16th over.
The champion team was awarded cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with the coveted trophy, while the runner up team was given cash prize of Rs 15,000 with a trophy.
Daajum Doke of Tabiripo team was declared man of the match and Komba Nyodu of Telam team was adjudged man of the series.
Twenty teams from different corners of the district participated in the tournament.
Prominent public leader of Nari-Seren (Lower Ramlo-Banggo) area Karto Kaye, who attended the final day of the tournament, suggested the young players to build their career through sports and bring laurel to the state and the nation.
The leader, who recalled the social contributions of late Kaye, said that he was not only an educationists, but also worked for overall development of the Assam-Arunachal boundary area. He asked the organizers to continue their efforts for keeping late Liri Kaye’s wisdom alive in the society.
Late Kaye was the first Masters Degree holder from Nari-Seren area and served as school teacher. He died prematurely in a road accident in 2015.
Organized by Telam Youth Welfare Society, the tournament was inaugurated by Nari-Koyu MLA Kento Rina on November 1 last.
In his inaugural speech, the MLA urged the local leaders to encourage growing youths in sports activities along with their formal education and assured to extend all necessary help from the government’s end. The cricket tournament was sponsored by late Kaye’s wife Dalimi Kaye and her family.
Dalimi, who has pledged to sponsor the tourney for two more years, was hopeful that the tourney will provide a platform to show sport (cricket) talent for the local boys.
