MIAO, Nov 23: The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture and Changlang District Administration is organizing a four-day outreach chain programme, ‘Discover North East -A Cultural Yatra’.
The programme was inaugurated on Wednesday by Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Kamlung Mossang in presence of Deputy Commissioner Wayong Khimhun.
On Thursday, the programme was held at New Songking village and it will conclude on Saturday at Bordumsa.
Speaking during the inaugural programme, Mosansg gave an introduction of the people, culture and geographical conditions of Miao and the entire state.
He said that art and culture was a great medium for bonding of people from different places, and appreciated the NEZCC for selecting Changlang district for this year’s programme. He hoped that this would go a long way in promoting cultures of different tribes and communities.
DC Wayong Khimhun also welcomed the guests who had come from different states to showcase their culture.
Earlier, Deputy Director Senti Ao gave a brief outline of the programme and the activities of NEZCC.
Large number of people thronged the General Ground Miao to witness the cultural performances by troupes representing states, like Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, and Assam.
Stick Dance, Thang-TA and Dhol Dholok Cholom dance from Manipur; Gaddi Nati dance from Himachal Pradesh; Bordoishikla and Dahal Thungri dance from Assam; Sambhalpuri dance from Odisha; Mamita dance from Tripura and Harvest dance from Meghalaya enthralled the audience.
The Singpho, Tikhak, Longchang and Pangwa were the local troupes who presented their dances.
