ROING, Nov 25: The 12 hours bandh called by the DVSU and AIMSU passed off peacefully in Dibang Valley district on Friday last.
The bandh was called to protest against the non-compliance of the district administration, PWD and DUDA Anini, to initiate departmental enquiry and to take disciplinary action against the three government officials involved in the illegal confinement and serving of alcohol to three minor girls at their official quarter at Anini.
All shops remained closed and no vehicular movement was allowed in and around Anini Township during the bandh, while all government institutions also remain closed.
There have been no reports of any untoward happenings during the bandh.
In a joint statement, the unions said that since the peaceful agitations demonstrated so far have only received a blind eye from the departments, the unions intend to go for a 24 hours bandh call in the near future.
The student bodies said that they are in deep resentment over the culprits and on the fact that they have not yet been booked for their misdemeanour.
The DVSU and the AIMSU have also said that if the concern departments continue with their careless attitude on the matter without respecting the sentiments of the denizens, the unions will not be held responsible for any disruptions in the law and order situation of the district.
