NAHARLAGUN, Dec 6: An advocacy and sensitization programme organized here by the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) for officials of the Department of Information Technology (IT) on Wednesday explored the possible role that the department could play in HIV/AIDS prevention activities.
APSACS Deputy Director Tashor Pali spoke about the role that the IT Department could play, “such as through sending bulk SMSes and creating a web portal to create public awareness.”
He stressed the need to mainstream HIV/AIDS activities with the state government departments.
TRIHMS’ ARTC Plus MO, Dr Moli Basar, highlighted the modes of HIV/AIDS and STI/RTI transmission, and the preventive measures against them. He also informed about the facilities available for HIV/AIDS testing, and the STI Clinic.
Earlier, the APSACS Project Director highlighted the HIV/AIDS scenario in the state and the country. He also informed about the facilities like free treatment, free laboratory investigation, and accommodation available for persons living with HIV/AIDS in the state.
IT Joint Director H Taka promised to extend all possible help to the APSACS in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state through the services available with the department.
Over 50 officials of the IT Department attended the meeting.
