LONGDING, Jan 13: Longding constituency (Niaunu) will represent its district with a similar name in the state level Hangpan Dada Memorial Football Trophy (HDMT) in men’s football.
Longding constituency defeated Wakka constituency (Longkai) 3-1 in the final played here on Saturday.
In women’s football, Pumao defeated Pongchau 1-0 in extra time to become the district champion.
In volleyball, Bonia and Kanubari won the men’s and women’s titles beating their respective opponents Hase Rusa and Pongchau.
The winners will represent the district in the state level championship scheduled to be held tentatively from the last week of this month in Aalo in West Siang district.
Wangtam Wangsu and Lamtai Jokam were adjudged the best players in men’s football and volleyball, while Angun Wangsu and Thazing Wangsa bagged the best player award in women’s football and volleyball respectively.
Deputy Commissioner VS Mallik and Superintendent of Police Rohit Meena awarded the winners.
The deputy commissioner announced to arrange a special coaching camp for the winning teams before leaving to represent the district in the state level, while Longding ZPM Noksa Saham announced to sponsor the to and fro journey expenditure of the players in the state level tournament.
