U-15 badminton championship begins

ROING, Jan 21: The district level U-15 badminton championship for boys and girls was inaugurated by RS MP Mukut Mithi at the Ita Pulu Indoor Stadium here in Lower Dibang Valley district on Saturday.
Children under the age of 15, from nine different schools of the district are participating in the tournament in various categories.
The first match of the tournament was played between Dindo Linggi (8) and Rosha Pulu (13), which was won by Pulu.
An exhibition match was also played between APP Roing and the CRPF and match was won by the APP Roing (15-14, 9-15, 15-8).
In his inaugural address, Mithi lauded the police and the LDVBA for conducting the tournament, saying that it would encourage children to take part in sports activities.
Pointing out the importance of games and sports in a person’s life, he said, “Health is most important and to be healthy one has to have physical activities. Games and sports are the best source of physical exercise.”
MLA Mutchu Mithi encouraged the participants to maintain the sportsman spirit. He also spoke about how the sport is flourishing with a lot of district players proceeding towards being top players of the state.
Earlier, SP Sanjay Kumar Sain highlighted the significance of sports as an extra curricular activity for students. He advised the children to keep up the same spirit throughout their life.
The tournament is being organised by the Lower Dibang Valley District Police in collaboration with the Lower Dibang Valley Badminton Association. The prizes will be distributed on Republic Day.
