ITANAGAR, Jan 23: The Arunachal Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Welfare Association (APKGBVA) has demanded that the state government immediately provide textbooks in all the 48 KGBVs in Arunachal Pradesh.
The association stated in a release that the KGBVs throughout the state have not yet received any textbook from the DDSE offices despite the government having issued a directive in this regard.
“Although the KGBVs have been receiving the school uniform fund regularly since 2016, the schools have not received textbook fund for the last three years,” said APKGBVA chairman Tamuk Tania.
He said that unavailability of textbooks has not only caused great difficulties in running schools in remote areas but also adversely affected students’ education.
The APKGBVA chairman expressed hope that the current state government would continue to give priority to girls’ education by releasing funds to the KGBVs on time.
Tania also called for a change in “the salary norms” of KGBV teachers.
“It is imperative on the part of the central government to change the salary norms for KGBV teachers as they serve in tough and inhospitable terrains which share international borders with China, Myanmar and Bhutan,” he said.
