KHONSA, Feb 10: In order to strengthen the relations between the security forces and the public, the 36 Bn CRPF organized a football tournament under its civic action programme at Nehru Stadium here in Tirap district on Saturday.
Three schools – government higher secondary schools (GHSS) of Khonsa and Borduria, and government secondary town school (GSTS), Khonsa – participated in the tournament.
GHSS Khonsa won the tournament, defeating GSTS 6-1 in the final.
The winning and runner-up team were given football kits, jerseys and nets, along with trophies and cash prizes. All the players of the three teams were also awarded certificates of participation.
Satya Ranjan Behura, the commandant of the battalion, enlightened the students about the Centre’s ‘Khelo India’ programme, of which the CRPF’s civic action programme was a part.
Behura said that playing sports help children develop team spirit and leadership quality, and brings peace and harmony in the society.
The commandant assured to conduct more sports activities to encourage young boys and girls to excel not only in football but in the other sports also.
The battalion’s second-in-command Dharmendra Kumar Singh, 36 Bn CMO Dr Krishan Jaiswal, principals, teachers, and students of the three schools were also present. (DIPRO)
