Poppy fields destroyed

WAKRO, Feb 13: The Lohit district administration along with the Central Bureau of Narcotics and police personnel destroyed over 250 hectares of opium cultivation in Wakro-Medo area in Lohit district on Tuesday.
Most of the poppies were grown in Turung Reserve Forest area and in deep pockets of the jungle.
The team comprising Magistrate Duyu Ribia, DSP Thutan Jamba, COs Une Pertin and Kenter Lendo, and others met with some resistance from the locals.
A government tractor was damaged by hostile opium growers while the operation was going on. However, the drive was successful overall.
