Transport federation irked by traffic arrangement

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Irked by the recent traffic arrangement by the district administration, the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) on Wednesday highlighted how the traffic arrangement for construction of the four-lane highway has not produced the desired results and has instead increased traffic congestion by many folds.
In a press communiqué, the AAPPTF said that while it welcomed the government’s step of constructing the four-lane and appreciated the efforts of the traffic wardens, it lamented that it now takes nearly three hours to travel from Naharlagun to Itanagar.
Highlighting that the traffic was uncontrollable mainly due to shortage of manpower and lack of civic sense, the transport federation called for engaging more personnel to manage traffic with added authority to take strict action against vehicles going out of lane.
It also placed other suggestions, such as deploying police motorcycles on NH-415 and Jully road to ensure that traffic movement is limited to two-lane only; immediate maintenance of Jully road; to make NH-415 (Itanagar to Naharlagun road) open for two-way traffic from 7AM to 11AM and 3PM to 5PM for the convenience of all commuters; and restricting parking on either sides of road (particularly at Papu Nallah trijunction, Ganga-Jully trijunction, and the Ganga-Akashdeep stretch).
It further called for the construction work to be carried out during night hours and suggested that the executing agency work on holidays.
