ZIRO, Feb 16: The anthropology department of Saint Claret College (SCC) here in Lower Subansiri district observed World Anthropology Day on 15 and 16 February under the theme ‘Celebrate, engage, inspire’ adopted by the American Anthropological Association.
The programme was inaugurated on Thursday by Itanagar-based Arunodaya University’s Vice Chancellor Dr VN Sharma.
In his address, Dr Sharma emphasized on the importance of anthropology in a tribal state like Arunachal Pradesh, and urged the students to let the world know more about anthropology and its relevance in contemporary human societies.
Earlier, the SCC’s Anthropology Department Head Tame Ramya (Tarh) highlighted the motive behind observing the day, and spoke about the achievements of his department.
SCC Principal Dr Allwyn Mendoz also spoke.
Various activities, such as poster display, an exhibition of archaeological tools and models on human evolution, display of laboratory items and tribal artifacts, and screening of ethnographic films were held as part of the programme.
A quiz competition for students of anthropology was also conducted on 16 February.
