Dear Editor,
This is in responds to news article published on Feb 16 “Losar and Oriah greetings” in which it was mentioned that CM greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Losar festival of Monpa tribe.
Here I would like to clarify to all the readers of this news paper in particular and to all Arunachalee brothers and sisters in general, that Loser is a New Year celebration which is also celebrated with full enthusiasm like any other by a small community called Sherdukpen residing in small pocket of West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh.
The total population of Sherdukpen tribe is around 4000 -5000, with a total villages of 15 of which Rupa, Shergaon and Jigaon being most populated. If some of you didn’t know about Sherdukepn tribe, following are some of the most popular Sherduken personalaties in Arunachal which you might have heard or come across- P. K. Thungon was the first CM of Arunachal Pradesh, Y. D. Thongchi ( ret. IAS) was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award 2005, Bhupen hazarika Award 2017, T.N .Thongdok is the present Speaker of state assembly, P. N Thungon is present DC Tirap, Dr.R.D Khrimey is a former CMO General hospital Naharlagun and Dr. R. D Megeji is the first MBBS, MD, DM (Cardiology). We the Sherdukpens have celebrated Losar from time immemorial and will be celebrated in near future too.
