TEZU, Feb 25: The Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell of Indira Gandhi Government (IGG) College organised a legal awareness programme on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013’ and ‘Human trafficking laws’ in collaboration with its women’s cell here on Saturday.
Advocate Laya Mena and Sub-Inspector Roinem Jugli were the panel speakers.
Advocate Mena discussed the various laws and procedures of sexual offences in addition to SHWA-2013. He also highlighted case studies pertaining to rape.
Sub-Inspector Jugli discussed in detail the role of police in filing FIR reports and other related procedures, including medical examination of the victims.
She stressed on the need for legal awareness among women and creating healthy environment where women are free to know their rights and make responsible use of the laws available.
The cell also screened a documentary on human trafficking ‘Freedom Matters’, which features Noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi (A crusader against child labour and trafficking) and another important short film on the issue of rape.
The women’s cell of IGG College had earlier started its first maiden self-defense classes for girl students and women faculty members, which is currently underway.
