Sports for healthy life, career: Felix

NAHARLAGUN, Mar 20: Minister PHE and Parliamentary Affairs Bamang Felix appealed to the students and youths to take up sports for a healthy life and also to build a career out of it.
Felix said this while flagging off a mini marathon on the theme, ‘Run for Sports’ at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on early Tuesday morning.
The mini marathon, organized by department of Sports, was open to all.
Addressing the gathering, Sports Director Tadar Appa informed that the mini marathon has been launched to encourage and motivate people of all ages and backgrounds to improve their mental and physical health.
A total of 800 participants registered online. However, 480 people turned up for participation and completed a distance of 12 Km from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium to the Sports Complex at Yupia.
The participants were mostly from Rajiv Gandhi University, Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy, Sports Association of India, Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, ITBP, Arunachal Pradesh Police and various schools of the Capital Complex.
In men’s category, Mudang Omo of Lower Subansiri finished first, followed by Karbu Kena of Upper Subansiri and Bamo Tanang of Capital Complex.
In women’s category, Yabang Tali of East Siang came first, followed by Anung Wangsu of SLSA and Obur Siboh of SLSA.
The winners were given cash prize of Rs 50,000, a trophy and certificate. The second and third place winners were given cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively along with trophies and certificates.
Later, the first ever sports seminar of the state was also organised by the Directorate of Sports.
Two time Paralympic gold medallist Devendra Jhanjharia, Arjuna awardee wushu player Bimoljit Singh, and world record holder Everester Anshu Jamsenpa gave motivational speeches.
Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr Rajat Chauhan spoke on sports medicine, while Sports Psychologist Maurelle Dsouza spoke on sports psychology.
Parliamentary Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs, Nyamar Karbak, Sports Association of Arunachal Chairman Bamang Tago, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Dani Salu, Director Youth Affairs D K Dinglow, Mission Director (Khelo India Khelo) Gumnya Karbak, Arunachal Karate Association president Likha Tara, among several others were present on the occasion.
